Artworks of Calderdale if a YouTube slideshow of over 50 drawings, sketchers and art images based on photographs by me and some historical images of photo's and postcards by others. Many areas of Calderdale feature and much architecture and scenes are also shown within the video. The images are all set to music by Strauss and Liszt.
Images 1,2,5,6,8,12,15,18,19,23,26,28,31,32,34,36,37,38,40,41,43,45,46,47,48,49,51 and 53 are based on photographs by me and the full copyright belongs to me.
All the other images featured are based on postcards and photographs taken by others, the original copyright remains theres, the artwork copyright is mine. I am happy to credit them if required.

I recently unearthed a fascinating piece of history and turned it into a short YouTube video titled "The Nation's Shrines." It features a complete set of 25 cigarette trading cards released in 1929 by Player's Cigarettes, also called "The Nation's Shrines."
What Makes These Cards Special?
Each card in this collection showcases an image of a historic place from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. It's a real time capsule, offering a look at some of the most significant abbeys, cathedrals, castles, and other points of interest across the United Kingdom almost a century ago.
A Tour Through Time and Place
The video, which features every card in the set, takes you on a visual journey. You'll see stunning depictions of historical landmarks. Interestingly, while the complete set is there, Kenilworth Castle only makes a fleeting appearance, nestled briefly between John Milton's Cottage and Manorbier Castle due to the video software.
Breaking down the representation, the collection heavily features England with 17 sites. Wales and Ireland each have 3 sites, while Scotland is represented by just 2. It's safe to say that if this collection were curated today, we'd likely see a much more balanced representation, especially with more sites from the Celtic nations!

Ever wonder what life was like in your local village decades or even centuries ago? There's something truly captivating about seeing old photographs and postcards that transport you back in time. I've been diving into my collection of images, both personally taken and carefully gathered, to create a series of video slideshows that offer a unique look at three distinct Northern English locations.
Brotton: From Domesday to Decline
First up, we travel to Brotton, a village nestled in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland. With a history stretching back before the 1086 Domesday Book – its name literally meaning "Brook Farm" – Brotton holds centuries of stories within its ancient boundaries.
Today, Brotton has a population of around 5,400, a significant decrease from its peak. This decline directly correlates with the fading of its once-thriving ironstone mining industry. The early 20th century saw a downturn, and by 1954, the last mine had closed its doors. The images in this slideshow are a fascinating mix of collected postcards and public domain treasures, offering a visual narrative of Brotton's past.
Skipton: A Market Town's Enduring Charm
Next, we journey to Skipton, a bustling market town in North Yorkshire. Home to approximately 14,600 residents, Skipton is a hub of activity, intersected by the River Aire, the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and the Airedale Railway Line.
My slideshow of Skipton is another collection built from vintage postcards I've gathered over time. These images capture the essence of a vibrant market town, showcasing its enduring charm and how its key transportation routes have shaped its development.
Walsden: A West Yorkshire Village with Lancashire Roots
Finally, we head to Walsden, a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale, West Yorkshire. With a population of roughly 5,200, Walsden is characterized by the flow of Walsden Water (which feeds into the River Calder), the Rochdale Canal, and the A6033 Rochdale Road. It even boasts its own railway station on the Caldervale Line.
What's particularly interesting about Walsden is its historical identity. While it's now firmly part of West Yorkshire, it was once historically part of Lancashire and administered by Rochdale Corporation. Unlike the other two slideshows, all the pictures in the Walsden video were taken by me in August 2017, offering a more contemporary, yet still reflective, look at the village.

Have you ever wondered what daily life looked like in Halifax over a century ago? I'm excited to share a new YouTube video I've put together, a compilation of vintage images of Halifax from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These aren't just any old photos; they're a mix of postcards from my personal collection and digital copies I've gathered, all thoughtfully compiled into a dynamic slideshow. To the best of my knowledge, every picture featured is either in the public domain, copyright-free, or creatively commons commercially licensed, ensuring we can all enjoy these historical treasures without restriction. I simply felt these amazing images deserved to be seen rather than just stored away!
The video offers a fascinating journey through approximately 20 pictures taken right in the immediate Halifax area. You'll see people going about their everyday lives, historic sports teams, and iconic local landmarks like the magnificent Piece Hall, the imposing Town Hall, and the bustling Train Station. But perhaps one of the most unexpected inclusions is a picture of an elephant – an exhibit from the short-lived Halifax Zoo, which operated between 1909 and 1916. Interestingly, the site where this zoo once stood is now the home ground of Siddal ARLFC.

Currently sorting through my collection of images that I have acquired over the years trying to find stuff to do with them and found over 200 vintage railway posters. I have taken an initial 26 from them and turned them in to a slideshow - video, which can now be viewed both here and on YouTube. The posters are mainly from the United Kingdom but there are also posters from other parts of the world.
I purchased many of my images copyright free and as far as I am aware that is the case with these. if I am misinformed I will remove them if asked by the copyright holder.

Sometimes, the most unexpected discoveries land right in your lap. Recently, I stumbled upon a fascinating collection of images, a veritable time capsule brimming with the echoes of bygone eras. I'm told these pictures are copyright free, and as they sat there, a silent testament to forgotten artistry and cultural moments, I couldn't shake the feeling that they deserved more than just gathering dust.
Imagine leafing through a stack that includes vibrant old travel posters, each a miniature invitation to a world long past. Then there are the delicate autographs, whispers of famous hands and personalities. And let's not forget the captivating pin-up girls, each a unique expression of artistic style and societal ideals. The collection even holds a glimpse into the more discreet world of Victorian erotica, offering a fascinating, albeit perhaps blush-inducing, peek into the sensibilities of the time. Rounding it all off are portraits of celebrities, frozen moments of fame and recognition.
It felt like a disservice to keep these intriguing snapshots locked away. So, I decided to bring a small portion of this treasure trove to life. My first foray into sharing this collection focuses on the captivating work of Raphael Kirchner.
For those unfamiliar, Raphael Kirchner was an incredibly prolific Austrian artist, born on May 5th, 1875. Despite a tragically short life – he passed away on August 2nd, 1917, at the young age of 42 – Kirchner left behind an astonishing legacy of over a thousand paintings and drawings. His distinctive style, often characterized by elegant lines and a certain romanticism, captured the spirit of his era.
I've carefully selected 30 images from the Raphael Kirchner part of the collection and transformed them into a short slideshow video, now available for your viewing pleasure on YouTube. It's a small window into the artistry of Kirchner and a chance to appreciate the beauty and detail of his work.
This is just the beginning of exploring this fascinating collection. I'm excited to delve deeper into the other categories – the allure of vintage travel, the stories behind the autographs, the artistry of the pin-ups, the intrigue of the Victorian era, and the faces of fame.

A new slideshow video I have uploaded to YouTube featuring in order pictures taken along the Calder & Hebble Navigation Canal from Sowerby Bridge Wharf to Bridge number 8 Copley Lane at Copley. The distance is approx. 1.6 miles and the slideshow features 36 pictures.
The video refreshers every 8 seconds with a new image. They were taken over the last 5 years and feature the canal at different times of the year.

Images from Calderdale is a YouTube slideshow I uploaded today set to music. It features 60 pictures taken within the boundaries of Calderdale from Walsden to Brighouse, and from Warley to Norland. They were all taken over a period starting in 2013 up to December 2017 and include many notable local landmarks.
A full list of place names can be found underneath the slideshow on YouTube. The images refresh every 8 seconds and has a background soundtrack, please mute the music if not to your taste.
